What is Cell Phone Flashing ?
If you are like most people today you have a cell phone and like most of us you don't stick with the same carrier forever. When you change carriers you need a phone that will work on their network so you have two choices, buy a phone through your new carrier and get locked into a one or two year contract or use your current phone on their network. For most people the cheapest and best solution is to use your current phone. Thus phone Flashing. Flashing is the process of loading Carrier specific files to handsets from other carriers in order to connect the phone to the new carrier.
How Difficult is it ?
There are a few good downloadable cell phone flashing programs out there that will guide you through reprogramming your cell phone to use on many other carriers. If you have basic computer knowledge and a USB cable almost anyone can Flash or reprogram a cell phone. To begin search for a Flashing program on the internet if you don't already have one. I have used software from YourCellular at http://www.yourcellular.net/need_help.html in the past and recomend them. Using their software along with the videos and tutorials I was able to flash my phone in 20 minutes with no experience. Once downloaded unzip the file and search for the instruction or read me docs and follow them carefully. Look for instruction on your specific phone. See the video below. This will give you a good overview of what you will be doing. Your Flashing program may not match the video exactly but you will get the idea. You should be able to complete the process in about ten to fifteen minutes once setup. You will be Flashing a CDMA phone to a CDMA carrier. See a description of the two major networks below.
What do I Need to Flash My Phone ?
1.) Flashing software ( which you can download )
2.) A USB cable for the phone you're flashing
3.) A computer with Windows 2000 or Newer, a USB Port, 800Mhz+, 256MB RAM
4.) A CDMA cell phone( see below )
The Networks
In addition to the list above you will need an account with the CDMA carrier you wish to sign up with. There are two major networks for cell phone carriers. They are GSM or Global System for Mobile Communications. Examples are AT&T, T-Mobile The second CDMA or Code Division Multiple Access.Examples are Qwest, Metro, Sprint and Verizon. These are technologies which essentially allow a mobile device to communicate with a mobile communications network.
How Good Is The Carrier I am Flashing To ?
As with most great deals you probable heard about a better carrier through a friend or co-worker. But before you change carriers you should make sure the coverage you are going to is at least as good as your current provider. One way of doing that is compare your current coverage with your new carrier at http://wwwcellreception.com.. Here you can enter in your zip code and get ratings for all carriers in your area along with comments from others using the different cellular services.

Unfortunately you cant flash any AT&T or T-MOBILE phones to the boost mobile network since they are SIM card phones and it is a whole different issue.

No you can't flash to T-Mobile phone as T-Mobile is a GSM network. You can only flash to a CDMA network. A good rule of thumb is if your phone has a sims card under the battery like AT&T or T-Mobile it can't be flashed.

If your iphone is with Verizon it is on a CDMA network and can be flashed but flashing any phone to Streight Talk is difficult. Flashing a Verizon iphone to Metro PCS is much easier. Any iphone with AT&T is on a GSM network and can not be flashed.

Streight Talk phones use a couple of different networks. They use AT&T , Verizon, and T-Mobile at the moment. The NEW Android on Straight Talk will use the Sprint network.
The phones currently ending in "C" (except the Android) are Verizon. Ones ending in "G" are AT&T or T-Mobile. The Nokia smartphones are only on AT&T. Any of the phone on CDMA networks, any network accept AT&T and T-Mobile can be flashed but Streight Talk will not currently allow other phones on their network. Bottom line YOU CAN NOT FLASH TO STREIGHT TALK.

You can flash any CDMA phone to any CDMA carrier regardless of what state you are in. You should check the coverage area for Metro PCS in your area first however.
You can not Flash an Iphone with AT&T to Verizon as AT&T is a GSM network and their phones will not work on a CDMA or Verizon network.

Flashing a phone is different than unlocking. When you flash a phone you are changing the firmware in the phone to be compatible with another carrier. To do this you will need your phone unlocked. as part of the process.

Before you can get your flashed phone to work on Streight Talk you must first change the ESN on your phone to a Streight Talk ESN. So you need to buy a Streight Talk phone and swap ESN numbers with your roid.

Flashing your cell phone will not reset your SPC or security code. In fact to flash a phone you will need to unlock it. Search the internet for a spc reader. That might get you unlocked.

There are no exceptions. Any phone on AT&T or T-Mobile are on a GSM network ( there is a sim chip under the battery)and can not be flashed. CDMA network phones have firmware inside(no sim chip)and can be reprogramed or flashed.
If you switch from Verizon to Metro you will still be able to download apps as long as you are able to use wifi. Flashing should do this but can't guarantee it.Other more involved steps might need to be taken.

Flashing a Samsung phone to Boost is no problem but you say it has a bad ESN. To get the phone into the Boost data base so you can get service Boost will need the ESN. If the ESN is bad due to nonpayment at another carrier it is doubtful you will get it in untill the bill is paid and changing the ESN is illegal according to the FCC.

Brief question I will be going from Sprint to either Boost or Virgin. Do I need a donor phone from those companies to use that ESN or will they activate a Sprint phones ESN?
You don't need a doner phone to flash to another carrier. You are not changing your current phone's ESN.In fact according to the FCC changing the ESN is illegal.Once the phone is flashed to the new carrier you will need to get your ESN number into their data base usually by visiting a local carrier's store or by phone.
Once the phone is flashed to your new carrier visit a Boost or Metro store and ask for them to add your ESN number to their data base. There may be a small fee to do it. You can also search the fourms to find someone to do it for you.
The only way to get your phone on Streight Talk is to change the ESN number of your phone to one from Streight Talk. This process is illegal.

The most inportant thing to remember is to have your phone fully charged and follow all instructions before you begin the flashing process. Although you can brick your phone it is not common.

Virgin Mobile is a CDMA carrier network and has no sim card. GSM network phones like AT&T and T-Mobile will have a sim card under the battery. That is how you tell a CDMA network phone, one that can flashed, from a GSM network phone which can not be flashed.

A Verizon phone will not work on AT&T. They are two different types of networks. AT&T is a GSM network and can not be flashed to.

Both Boost and Cricket are great services and are easy to flash to.
In most cases if a carrier rejects an ESN it is due to the ESN being black listed and may be from unpaid bills from another carrier or a phone from another country. If this is not the case try another Boost store or flash it to Cricket.

Hey Mike, I know people keep asking basically the same question, but can the motorola XPRT by sprint be flashed to boost? and after its been flashed and its a brand new sprint phone never been activated , all I do is walk into a boost store and ask them to add my esn to their data base,then they will activate it? Yes once your phone is flashed to Boost you still need to get the ESN into the Boost data base in order to get service. In other words you need a Boost account and your local Boost store the place to do that. As for all of the features working the answer is most likely but no guarantees.
This question keeps coming up so once and for all YOU CAN NOT LEGALLY FLASH TO STREIGHT TALK. To do so would require you changing your ESN number on you phone and this illegal.This is true for all pre-paid services.

You can flash your CDMA phone to Both Boost and Virgin mobile as they are both on a CDMA network and are not pre-paid.Flashing to Streight Talk or any pre-paid service requires you to take a phone from that services and clone the ESN to the phone you want to flash. Your are changing the ESN number of the flashed phone and this is illegal.It's like changing the vin number of a car, against the law.
Ok but virgin mobile and boost only accept their phones so in order to flash u would have to clone the esn of another phone. Or do they sell esn's like sprint does? and if I own both of the phones I don't see the big deal with swapping the esn's
The law is very clear. You can't change a car's vin number and you can't change a phone's ESN.Once the phone is flashed you will need to visit a Boost or Virgin mobile store and ask to be added to their data base. There may be a charge for this.Also if you search Howard's Forums you can find someone to add it for a fee.

Yes you are correct but remember that AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM networks and the phones have a sims chip under the batter so by changing the sims chip you can move the phone to another GSM carrier and Streight Talk does have some of their phones on the AT&T network so it works. For most phones which are on a CDMA network there is no sims card in the phone so you must change the internal software by flashing and since Streight Talk is pre-paid and their ESN numbers are locked in their system you would need to buy a Streight Talk phone and clone it's ESN number onto your current phone to make it work on yheir network and that is illegal. Good point you make however.

The phones currently ending in "C" (except the Android) use Verizon so to get a Streight Talk phone on Verizon you will need to buy another phone from Streight Talk. Your current phone can not be flashed without changing the ESN and that is illegal.

Pre-paid service is hard to flash to as they have their own ESN numbers and will not accept others. Acloned phone will work but that is illegal to do. So the answer is no.

Metro or Cricket are better than Boost to get all fuctions working.
You probable need to download drivers for your phone to your computer. You should be able to get drivers for your phone at the manufactures website. That should slove the problem.

Mike, I'm not sure what country you're in, but in the USA, Virgin Mobile is only a pre-paid provider on the Sprint network. I don't think Virgin (owned by Sprint) would allow Sprint phones on their plans. My impression is that they will not add ESNs for us. Not sure if Boost will, either, as they are owned by Sprint, as well. It is a shame that Sprint won't just offer unsubsidized Sprint phones with Virgin or Boost monthly plans.
Yes at one time Virgin would add an outside ESN but no more. The two easiest networks now to add an ESN are Metro PCS and Cricket. I have also had good luck with PagePlus who is owned by Verizon.

From what I am reading, you are able to flash most phones but the internet will not work without a wi-fi connection. Is this correct? First to get service with Boost they will need to get your ESN added to the Boost data base once you flash the phone. This can be done by visiting a local Boost dealer.This along my solve your problem. You may also want to talk to the Boost tech support not customer services as they are better able to answer your question.

As long as Wind Mobile is a CDMA carrier and not prepaid it will work. You will need to get the PLR file emailed to your from the carrier to flash your phone plus our software.

Both Sprint and Boost are CDMA carriers and do not use sims card so you can flash to Boost using our software.
You can get drivers for your phone from the phone's manufacturers website or when you bought your phone new many times you get a driver disk. If all fails go to your local cellular store and ask for the music kit. This is used to download music. With it you get a USB cable and drivers.

What isn't mentioned here is that even if you flash your phone there is no guarantee the company you want to go with will agree to activate a phone that isn't theirs.
Good point but remember ALL the cellular service providers need your business and it is very competitive out there.It has been my experience that few will turn you down and will gladly add your ESN to their data base.

Yes you can flash your phone to a new carrier but activate it with the new carrier at a later date. Keep in mind however your phone will not work until activated to the new account.
A sims card under the battery usually indicates a GSM carrier which you can not flash to, however Verizon is a CDMA carrier which you can flash to so if you are on Verizon now flashing to Metro should work.

Your phone can be flashed but you will need the PLR file emailed to you from the new carrier to be used with the flashing software. As far as all functions working it is hard to say.Talk and text should be fine, internet questionable.

You can not flash a phone legally to Straight Talk. That involves changing the ESN of your phone.

Your Motorola Bionic has a sim card for traveling overseas, either that or you re referring to an SD card, which is not the same thing. As I am not familiar with this particular phone, I cannot say which it is. Either way, I don't see any way for you to get Virgin's service on your Verizon phone. It is possible to get Boost mobile on Sprint phones, however. Talk to a Boost mobile person about it.
mike446 having worked for US Cellular, I can tell you that is not the case. Most representatives will not let you use another phone on their network, they want to sell you a phone.
I don't know about US Cellular but most carriers have given up on selling you a phone in order to connect to their network. Remember the money for the carriers is in selling you their service. They make very little on selling you a phone. Carriers like PagePlus,Cricket and Metro PCS all have grow by leaps and bounds since they have allow other phones on their networks.

Your phone may be a duel phone which can be used over seas. If your current carrier is Verizon, which is a CDMA carrier your phone can be flashed.
